Our Working Wool Field-to-Fabric workshops are unique, immersive experiences offering participants the opportunity to learn first-hand the basic activities required to convert fleece from sheep’s clothing into a functional woollen textile.
A typical visit includes:
- Farm walk and talk with one of Fernhill’s resident farmers, shearers or wool specialists
- Blade shearing demonstration
- Opportunity to try fleece carding and spinning
- Choice of wool crafts, including peg-loom weaving and French knitting, or a further exploration of spinning and fancy-bat making using the drum carder.
We can also always modify workshop to content to suit the group; if you are a group facilitator and tutor and would like to tailor a visit for a particular purpose, or would like to cover particular topics within the farm walk and talk then please get in touch – we would be happy to discuss this with you.
